John Robert Griffin to Mrs. Denlinger / Sacramento, CA

Dear Mrs. Denlinger,

Thank you very much for your kind note to Mother. She is very appreciative of the help that you have given her during her illness. She has told me on numerous occasions how secure she feels about the house with you living next door.and assisting her.

Mother is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento. Her doctor feels that she has a better than average chance of undergoing a satisfactory remission of her tumor during the next six weeks. He has cautioned her to stay close to us here in Sacramento and make no effort to return home during this critical peeriod of treatment. However, Mother fully intends to return home to look after her affairs there. we are currently uncertain as to whether or not she will make an effort to continue living in La Canada, since the results of treatment will play a great role in making this determination. In any event, she is suffering much less pain and, although weak and unable to maintain her correspondence, her spirits are good.

My father is currently at the Mercy Hospital Extended Care facility in Sacramento and we just received word today that this facility, by far the best in town, is willing to accept Dad on a long-term basis for extended care. This is a great blessing, since the facility is adjacent to Mercy Hospital, where I do my eye surgery, and I can visit Dad on a daily basis. Not only that, but he receives physical therapy each day and a great effort is made by the nursing staff to involve him with other patients and to make hiss life interesting and varied. In addition, the nursing care which he receives is excellent. Although Dad was initially quite agitated about his hospital stay, he has settled down now and, for the most part, is quite cooperative and calm. We are grateful with this improvement in his emotional state. Thank you again for your help during mother and Dad's absence, our whole family appreciates your kindness in this regard.

Yours very truly,

J. Robert Griffin, M.D.
