Dear John:

In all probability you think that I have forgotten you altogether, but such is not the case although I have neglected to write and tell you the result of my investigation. You will find listed below the necessary information which will give you the right to enjoy lifetime matrimonial happiness.

If you came into Alexandria by either the Washington Street route or the Mt. Vernon Boulevard travel until you come to the "dummy cop" which is at Washington and Cameron St. intersection. Turn left at this point and travel four blocks, counting the one you entered the city as "1". The Court House is at Cameron and Fairfax Sts., and when you get to Fairfax St., which is the fourth block, turn right, park, get out of your machine, and if.in doubt as to the court house, inquire of anyone who will be glad to tell you. After going into the court house turn sharply to the right and you will enter the "Clerk's" office and there you can obtain the necessary credential for your venture. No witnesses are necessary for the purchasing of your license, but if you are married by any of the civil authorities a witness is required.

After having made your "authorization" purchase, if the future Mrs. Griffin is with you, proceed over the same routing as you did after turning onto Cameron St. Instead of turning at the "dummy cop" this time you follow Caldron St., which makes a slight off-set to the right, one block north of Washington St. This Street is Columbus and you must follow a slight off-set to the left this time in order to get on Cameron St. again. HERE IS THE INFORMATION FOR THE TIE-UP. On the Southwest corner of Columbus St., directly in front of a red brick church, which is Christ Church, is a large frame house. This is the parsonage of the minister whose name I gave you. If married there his wife is the only witness necessary.

After having been married you can travel north on Columbus Street will bring you out at the intersection of Washington St. and Mt. Vernon Boulevard and either of these routes may be taken on the return trip to Washington,

[I hope] that the information I have given you is clear and that [I wish] for you many years of Peace, Happiness and Prosperity.

Sincerely, Enoch L. Ellmore
