John Griffin to Mother / Los Angeles, CA
I dont know whether or not I have written since I got over my chills and fever. Anyway I am feeling fine again and still don't know what caused the sick spell. Con seemed to think that it might be my stomach in as much as I had had trouble there before. He thought it best that I have rays taken as so I put out $35 for a full set of x-rays. They found absolutely nothing wrong with my stomach and so now I am eating anything and everything again and feeling fine in doing; so. It was almost worth the $35 to get back on a full diet again.
We went over to the local draft board last night and got our numbers. Donny is number 321 and I am number 2220. As far as I am concerned I found out that I should not have registered being an Army Reserve Officer. However, No one seemed to know so I felt that I shouldn't take any chances. I hope that Donny by reason of having drawn a rather high number on the first shuffle will draw one way down the line when the drawing takes place in Washington. No doubt he told you that they would not 1et him register as from Utah because of the fact that he was employed in California. I thought that would be the case before he went over there.
I think that Donny is planning on coming home for a day over Thanksgiving. We are trying tot talk him out of it as it will cost him so much money for so short a visit, but it seems that we are not getting very far. I don't know whether he has said anything about it and maybe I am talking out of school.
No doubt you have heard of our heat waves. It seems that every week end is hot as fire and then it cools off during the week. Last Saturday it got up to 99 and I believe it was actually hotter down on the street. We went down to the beach and cooled off a bit. Sunday afternoon a cool breeze blew in from the ocean and it has been cool ever since.
Bob is growing up by leaps and bounds. He is 40 inches tall now and weighs 40 lbs. He talks a stream and asks so many questions it is hard to keep them all answered.
I am leaving for Arizona Monday and will probably be gone 10 days or two weeks. Shortly after I get back I have to go to Nevada again and so it looks like I'11 be on the run until about Christmas. I was sorry to hear that Gord was ill and hope that he is better by now.
Write Often, John
