John Griffin to Mother / Washington D.C.

Dear Mother,

The peaches arrived yesterday and were in good condition. Thanks a lot. Please let me know hour much they cost and how much the express was on them so that I can send you a check. We gave some of them to Dot's mother and some other friends without telling them that they were Utah peaches. The next day they all wanted to know where we bought those peaches, that they were the best peaches they had tasted since leaving Utah.

We spent the week end of Labor day at the beach and had a swell time. We took Marion Hyde along to help look after the baby, and she had a swell time, She has a lot of pep and puts a lot of life into the party. The weather was swell down there and we really enjoyed it, though a trip like that with a baby and all the equipment that goes along with him is a lot of work. Bob didn't like the ocean much, but I guess he was a little young for that anyway. He did like the sand though and must have eaten a ton of it. Every time I would turn my back he had a mouth full. It didn't seem to hurt him through, and he had a great time.

The weather here has turned suite cool, and it really felt this morning like Fall was in the air. They say however, that we have more warm weather coming. I don't think though that we will have any more real hot spells and the cool weather seems to put new life into us.

The new branch here starts to function Sunday. We have rented a hall out in Virginia, which is small, but quite nice and I think we will get along OK. I have heard that the ministers association in Arlington County has raised a stink about us coming out there, and that had they known it in advance we would never have been able to rent the hall. It might be all talk. Anyway we will see what the future brings.

I suppose that the film 1 sent before leaving fur the beach arrived by now. We think it is real good. We were sorry that we were not able to take some more of our trip. We are going try take another colored film on his birthday the last part of this month. Sometime I am going to take all the films we have of him and arrange them chronologically, and cut out the bad parts and put sub titles in them.

I must get down to Dot now. She gets out an hour later than I do. Will try and write at greater length next time.

John
