Dorothy Griffin to Maude Griffin / Washington D.C.
Dear Mother Griffin
Florence Ross was here last Monday and we were going along when the knock came at the door bringing those perfectly charming little aprons. Florence and I both exclaimed over the two shades, and then today I was again delighted to read you had made them! Contrarily to your belittling your sewing I think you did a beautiful job, and the colors were a perfect choice.
I had that my birthday to be over before they came, and altogether it was almost another Christmas for me. John gave me a lovely large scrap book, a house dress - cute. He picked it out himself and surprised me with it -- the "Good Housekeeping Magazine" and a dozen gorgeous roses. Some boy friend, don't you agree?
Mother, dad and the girls pooled their greetings in a lovely black velvet dress that is simple in lines but very smart, I think, and Verna gave me a sweet compact. Oh yes, mother gave me a little miniature sized picture of herself and one of dad in a double frame, taken in their youth, and I'm thrilled to pieces to have it. She was such a lovely looking creature and it makes me very prideful to show her off.
I'm enclosing several more pictures of the boy. In them you can see the dimple that John fusses over. All but the one under the tree were taken on my birthday. Mother made the adorable angora hood. It makes him look like a snow baby.
I'm afraid John has misstated the size of Robert's foot. So far he still wears a "0" size, or booties. The size 1 are just a bit large, but the little rascal fusses to pieces with any shoe having a stiff hole so we're afraid by the time he will wear shoes he may take a larger size. If he does I can easily exchange them here.
You realy should catch one of those buses, and see what a well behaved boy we have. Mother can't get over how beautifully tempered he is. Of course she like we, is predjudiced but I know no one could possibly have a better baby. I believe it is because he has sufficient diet and rest.
Myra and Vie Wallace are moving in their new home within a couple of weeks. It's really a mansion, and in the most perfect location on a high hill with evergreens in all directions. You can see the sun set over the tips of the trees. They are so excited and proud over it and will have a right to be. They planned the whole home with the help of an architect. Imagine having a house you could plan from furnace to attic! Sounds like Utopia, doesn't it.
Your ring must be exquisite. Sounds like Ben and Marian were quit jewelry minded, with the rings and the watch Ben is so proud over.
We were so sorry about Grandma Smith and will write soon to while away a few moments of her days which must seem so idle for one who generally does a thousand things each day with her hands.
Elsie must feel pretty grand with such happy expectations. We want to plan to give Robert a playmate within three years. My doctor says absolutely not before two. I am still going to him for treatment - altogether too quickly a birth to please him and it did some damage he's treating yet, but I feel splendid and am getting along nicely, and the post-natal treatment is no extra expense, which is a happy thought.
Affectionately, Dorothy.
