Dorothy Griffin to the Griffin Family / Washington D.C.
Dear Family
Well, here we are, hard at work again. It seems as though we should still be going to have a vacation; ours was so crowded. But it was a grand one while it lasted and I surely appreciate having you and all that you did for us.
It has rained every day since we came back, and every day a thunderstorm. In fact [we've had] so much rain that the apartment we were to move in September first won't be ready until October first. Mother moved this week and they seem very happy over their new place.
John is quite sick tonight again with his ear. This is the third time since we got home that we had the same kind of an ear he had in the park, and he won't go to a doctor. I sometimes wonder if Dr. Harding diagnosed his case right. Anyway he's had a painful two weeks and the reoccurrence is puzzling.
We were surprised and thrilled to hear from you...from the southern parks... And I know Grandma Smith was tickled to go just the way she talked to me about [the] trips.
So Ben the old plutocrat is trying to capitalize on jalopy the Ford! If he can do that he should stay in this country and make a business out of it! Tell him to think about the possibilities. As for Marian, don't let her get away without my mixing bowls from Auerbachs (what a name to spell).
We were glad to hear that Elsie had been called back to West Yellowstone.
We've been invited to take care of a darling house out in the woods from Friday until Sunday. We've been there before and its really a dream house. John would like to own it. We'll try to take come pictures out there and send you some.
We thought of Ben and Marian were here for a weekend we could go over to the ocean but I guess now that the time is nearing to go they are anxious to stay home as long as possible. Is Gord still picking beans, or what is it now? He was surely industrious to get up every morning the way he did.
As for your letter Dad, let me for one tell you you're aces with me, which means the top, and that goes for everything that means success. If John can be like you when he's your age I'll be satisfied. How is Don coming with his "speed blend" these days? And all his girlfriends?
Thanks again for doing so much to make our vacation such a memorable one, and we hope to see some of you, the more the better, before so very long.
Love and kisses, Dorothy.
