John Griffin to Mother / Washington D.C.

I received your letter today and have Just now written to Aunt Mina inviting her to stay with us and advising bar to come sooner than the 21st. Right now is a grand time to visit Washington. It is cool and nice and yet the leaves are still sill one the trees and everything is beautiful. I don't know about Marcus singing here in the church. I would like to see him do so but you know Edw. P, Kimball is in charge of the music here and studying in Now York doesn't mean a tiring to him. However I as going to tell Him (Kimball) about Marcus and he may ask him to sing.

We were sorry to hear that your hay fever had been so bad this year. There are a lot of people bothered with it back here too and they seem to suffer a lot, My cold is all over with. Our trip to the ocean cured that on labor day. There seems to belt quite a bit of sickness going around back here. We have had a rotten damp spell the last week or so. It soma to have cleared away now though and the weather for the last few days has been great.

It is too early now to say whether we will come home next summer or not but we would like very much to do so. We will not be able to come in the Ford though and whether we can get a now car and come home too I don't knew right now. It would be nice to all be together again though.

I guess everyone is waiting for school to open again. It seems that this summer has gone awfully fast, but then when I think back they all have. Tell Elsie Mae not to get too serious until she gets through school or at least until her boy friend gets through school or else gets in a position where he can get thru school. Expenses mount up when you are married and that stops lots of people from doing what they have planned to do in life.

We bought a now rug the other day. It is a deep blue green broadloom and with the pad under it it seems that you sink way up to your ankles. Anyway it is a good rug, and we expect to get a lot of good service out of it. We thought it better to get a good one this time and then if we move take it with us. They were supposed to deliver it today but it hasn't arrived yet. Tell Dad and the rest of the family that I am still waiting to hear from then, and in the mean time don't take so long to write yourself. - John

Dear Mom,

I think you are right about finding out whether this Salt Lake House has the latest improvements. I have been carrying on correspondence with the Salt Lake Artificial Limb Co. I mentioned in my last letter to them that Dad was having his leg repaired and received a letter today in which they said that they had not done any repair work on his leg, Perhaps Dad is going to another firm there. These people though say that they have made several legs for dad in the past.

I will look around here a little and find out what I can. I have seen several men with artificial legs out here but I have not seen any that get around as well as dad does., so perhaps the company in Salt Lake is a good one after all.

If you can get some information from Dad or someone else as to where would be the best place to get it etc. we would much rather get what he wants. It seems though to be essential that a company be near enough so that they can measure arid fit the leg as they make it. Find out all you can and let me know before I do anything more about. it.
