Rulon Christensen, Mission President to John Griffin

Conditions in other parts of the Mission have made a sudden change of missionaries necessary. You are hereby appointed to the presidency of the branch in the City of Neuchatel, Switzerland to succeed Elder Wayne H. Knight. In order that you may have some time to go over the situation in your new branch with Elder Knight you will have to leave for Neuchatel just as soon as possible since Elder Knight has instructions to leave for Liege on February 9. Elder George Nibley will replace you in the presidency of the Grenoble branch. You will not need to await his coming. I hope that you received my telegram in time to have Elder Holt remain with your companion and also to say goodbye to the saints and friends in the Sunday meeting.

Neuchatel is an old and interesting branch. There are some wonderful saints there and if you will do the right thing by they you will find them really affable. Your new branch will require a good deal more patience than Grenoble, but I feel very confident that those big broad shoulders of yours can readily and easily support the added responsibility. You can call at the office on the way up and talk the situation over a bit if you care to. I'd suggest that you try to get away Monday or at the latest Tuesday in order to be in Neuchatel Wednesday.

This move on my part was in no wise fabricated in order to rescind the permission given you to go to Nice. Elder Nibley's health has become an acute question and it needs immediate attention hence the sudden decision and change. I am sure that you will be willing to sacrifice your personal desires for the good of the work.

I pray the Lord that he may inspire and help you in your new and important work and that things (be) made proper under your directions. If you will go forth with a prayerful and humble heart I know that you will succeed abundantly.

With best wishes to you, Elder Hathcock and all, I remain Sincerely your brother, (Signed Rulon Christensen)
