John Griffin to Mother / Grenoble, France
I don't know what is the matter back home but no mail has come here for me for some 11 days. Today there were several letters and a newspaper came for Frere White but none for me. It kind of gets me down, but I suppose you have been off on some trip or something like that and havn't had time to write.... I received a letter and $10 from Aunt Lilly yesterday. I will write here soon and send my thanks to all. She also sent me the family report which I was very glad to receive.
Everything is going along about the same and sometimes I wonder if I have done any good since I've been here. It seems so hard to see the fruits of your labors. Sunday at noon, Frere Caldwell, our new district president arrived. He seems to be quite the missionary - in fact one of the best. As I supposed, you now know we didn't have the chance of a vacation as was promised. I suppose that the President changed his mind. Other than the two days of excursions at the time of the conference we have had no other holidays. I suppose it is a good thing though because holidays make you lose the missionary spirit and after all, we are over here to preach the Gospel....
