Letter to Mother mailed on the train to Fostoria

Well another day's over. I thought sure yesterday would drag and drag, but it passed so quick I was really surprised. We are on the Chicago -- - and St. Paul railroad now. You can sure tell the difference. The train rocks like a hammock and the breakfast is poor and the service is rotten. Yesterday we played two times. Once at Cheyenne and once at North Platte, Neb. Between Cheyenne and Omaha the country is exactly the same - just old grass and sand, no farms or anything,. Went to bed last night about quarter of ten. Had a good nights sleep. We pushed and bumped about at Omaha last night about 12:30. But I didn't wake up until we were just pulling out. I saw them cross the Missouri River. It was big. We crossed (the train's moving now) two other big rivers too. They were both about three times as big as the Snake River. We cross the Mississippi about 10:30 this morning. I broke my watch crystal last night, so I don't use that any more. I'll get an unbreakable --- either in Chicago or Fostoria. We get in Chicago or Fostoria, Ohio. We get in Chicago today about 1:10. We play two concerts there and leave abut 9 o'clock tomorrow. Since we left Omaha the country has been very pretty. Lots of farms, mostly corn, etc. Sure are also lots of trees etc.
