La Canada   1961-1965

The Griffin family continued in strength in the '60s with many major events as their children matured. John Robert graduated and went on to medical school at Stanford where he completed his coursework in 1966. On September 3, 1963 he married Shirley Sonne. Paul was called on a mission in 1961, also to Germany, and returned early in 1964. Paul graduated with his bachelor's degree in 1966 and went on to graduate business school. Marian graduated from high school in 1963 and went on to Brigham Young University. All of this was tempered by John's gradually worsening condition with Parkenson's disease. Paul noticed a striking difference in John from the time he departed on his mission to the time he returned. Dorothy continued her career in school with successive kindergarten classes, until about 1965 she was asked to join the school district administration as a psychometric tester for children with special needs. In 1965, Dorothy's mother, Sarah Jane Israelson, passed away.
