School Days 1921-1924

I was ordained a Deacon on ( ) by ( ). I served as president of the Deacons quorum and held other offices in the priesthood. One of our advisers in the deacons quorum was Lester Scoville. He arranged for Patriarch Olsen (who was formerly Bishop Olsen of the Ogden 4th Ward . My father served as his ward clerk for many years) to come over one Sunday and give us all a patriarchial blessing. There were ten or twelve in the quorum and he gave us all a blessing. Two of the boys that were given a blessing have since died. Both were killed by accident. One laid a loaded pistol on a hot stove. The pistol went off and killed him. The other was killed in a car accident. I do not know what was in the blessing of these two boys but I do know that my blessing has come trude to date. It told me that I would be called on a mission and that I would become a district president while on my mission, all of which came true. It also told me that I would marry and have sons and daughters. I have now three children, two boys and a girl.

I was also very active in the Boy Scouts and became a 1st class scout and had some merit badges. We had many Scout Masters. The first and probably the best was a Mr. Bachman. He used to take us on lots of hikes and was a fine fellow. As I grew older I was made a patrol leader, senior patrol leader, assistant scout master and scout master. I have always enjoyed working with boys. The event I remember best as a scout is a summer camp which our troop went on above Eden, Utah, in what we called at that time North Fork. Our scoutmaster was a Mr. Everett who operated a typewriter repair shop. We camped by the stream and during the day went on hikes and fished in the stream. I recall especially that the stream had a lot of herring in it as well as trout and we used to try and snag the herring on snag lines. We were not too successful but it was a lot of fun trying.
